Hi Everyone,
Thank-you so much for all the wonderful support you have given to Justine for her educational expedition to Antarctica. She has been so busy these past couple of months with her fundraising efforts, trying to get ahead on much of her homework so that she is not behind when she gets home, and getting ready for the trip (she hasn't had as much time as she would like to do many entries to her blog site). She is booked for several talks when she gets home, the one talk that has been set is March 15, 2012 as part of the Kamloops Exploration Groups (KEG) lecture series. The talk will be at 7pm, at the Coast Hotel (formerly the Kamloops Towne Lodge) on Rogers Way in Kamloops, room Salon A/B, is open to the public and there is no cost (details will be on the keg website and in the papers).
For those interested in following the expedition, please go to:
www.studentsonice.com/antarctic2011
(and select daily journey updates on left menu).
The students are not permitted on their cell phones or on the internet for the duration of their trip. They will have the opportunity to blog for the Students On Ice website (under the daily journey updates, I believe). Hope you will get a chance to follow the trip!
Justine is in Toronto and has joined up with several members of the Students On Ice (SOI) team and participants this afternoon. Talked with her briefly and she is very excited about her trip. A quick summary: her roommate for this evening is Alex from Quebec, she is about 15 years old (you can check out her profile on the SOI website). Tomorrow, they meet up with the last of the students from Canada and then board the plane for Miami, before continuing on to Buenos Aires and then Ushuaia, picking up other participants as they travel. She sounded very excited and enthused about this once in a lifetime opportunity!
All the best of the holiday season to everyone!

Students On Ice 2011 To Antarctica
October 15
Last week I was informed that I was accepted to go on the Students On Ice Youth Expedition to the Antarctic. The expedition lasts from December 27, 2011-January 10, 2012. If you would like to learn more about this educational program visit their website http://www.studentsonice.com/. I am very excited to be accepted to go on a once in a lifetime opportunity to observe, and learn, the impacts of climate change and other environmental issues facing Antarctica.
This opportunity involves a lot of fundraising to get there. I am currently pursuing different angles of fundraising, such as school bake sales, craft sales, and even seeking donations from companies. Wish me luck!
I hope this blog will hold lots of interest in my progress in fundraising and the life-changing experience after I come back. I will update my progress as frequently as I can, and be blogging about the whole trip once I come back.
Thank-you for checking my blog out! If you wish to contact me feel free to email me: jwild9@yahoo.ca
